Admissions Philosophy
We believe access to quality, technology-driven higher education should be clear, transparent, and flexible. Our admissions standards uphold academic excellence while recognizing diverse backgrounds and prior learning.
Undergraduate Admission Requirements
Official secondary credential – high-school diploma or state-recognized equivalent from an accredited institution
Government-issued photo ID
Previous college credit (optional) – official associate-degree transcripts required for transfer applicants; foreign credentials must be professionally translated/evaluated
English-language proficiency (for programs taught in English) – minimum scores: TOEFL iBT 71, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 100, or PTE 50. Waivers apply for prior English-medium study
Spanish-language proficiency (for programs taught in Spanish) – institutional test or evidence of prior Spanish-medium study; AP Spanish ≥ 3, etc.
Graduate Admission Requirements
Updated résumé/CV
Official bachelor’s transcript or foreign evaluation showing U.S. equivalency
Government-issued photo ID
Certified English translation for any non-English documents
Language proficiency – same minimum scores/waiver options as undergraduate applicants
Language Options
FOU delivers degree programs in English and Spanish; selecting your language of study will determine which proficiency criteria apply. Completing a program in a language other than English may limit employment opportunities in English-required regions.
Transfer Credit Policy
Florida Open University accepts transfer credit for prior coursework completed at accredited institutions, provided a minimum grade of “B” or higher was earned. The maximum number of transfer credits accepted is 45 credits for an Associate’s degree, 90 credits for a Bachelor’s degree, and up to 18 credits for a Master’s degree. All foreign academic transcripts must be officially translated and evaluated by a credential evaluation agency that is a member of either the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).
Orientation & Registration
Registration occurs by email during the academic-calendar window; students must register on time to secure course access.
Mandatory Orientation (general + e-Library) introduces policies, LMS tools, and success resources; completion is required before classes begin.
